Winter Holidays.

maleny mistWe’re all going on a summer holiday, that’s me except I’m in the Southern Hemisphere, we’ve just gone into winter proper by the calendar but you wouldn’t know it by the temperature. Some of the days have been crazy considering the time of year and the fact that I am up in the mountains where it is generally colder even here in sunny Queensland. You never completely know what’s coming next and this blog is no exception to this general rule of life!

holiday

So I’m taking a friday holiday but will endeavour to come back with a little more focus for your sunday serving of whimsical, strange and sometimes erotic meandering, through this grand journey known as life!

Ah ho!

Gallop Apace Oh Lover Of Mine!

phaeton R and JGallop apace, you fiery-footed steeds,
Towards Phoebus’ lodging: such a wagoner
As Phaethon would whip you to the west,
And bring in cloudy night immediately.
Spread thy close curtain, love-performing night,
That runaway’s eyes may wink and Romeo
Leap to these arms, untalk’d of and unseen.
Lovers can see to do their amorous rites
By their own beauties; or, if love be blind,
It best agrees with night. Come, civil night,
Thou sober-suited matron, all in black,
And learn me how to lose a winning match,
Play’d for a pair of stainless maidenhoods:
Hood my unmann’d blood, bating in my cheeks,
With thy black mantle; till strange love, grown bold,
Think true love acted simple modesty.
Come, night; come, Romeo; come, thou day in night;
For thou wilt lie upon the wings of night
Whiter than new snow on a raven’s back.
Come, gentle night, come, loving, black-brow’d night,
Give me my Romeo; and, when he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
O, I have bought the mansion of a love,
But not possess’d it, and, though I am sold,
Not yet enjoy’d: so tedious is this day
As is the night before some festival
To an impatient child that hath new robes
And may not wear them. O, here comes my nurse,
And she brings news; and every tongue that speaks
But Romeo’s name speaks heavenly eloquence.

This was my audition piece for NIDA many years ago, I have often thought of it since I found my Beloved six months ago, especially in the first couple of months when we would have sometimes three or four days apart. Waiting for him to arrive I felt like Juliet who is desperately longing to lose her maiden hood to her beloved Romeo.

If you are not familiar with Shakespeare I invite you to read carefully through the words and think about what the imagery is saying to describe Juliet’s feelings, essentially she is hanging out for darkness when Romeo is due to arrive. It is a lovely state of flurried feelings and excitement and delighted anticipation and feeling like you just can’t wait!

Almost feels like that time for us now as we have just celebrated our six month anniversary, we made it a special day and it was simple and yet amazing and our relationship feels like it has hotted up again, if that’s possible. Ritual is a wonderful way to add power to our intentions and help us to go deeper, and it can be completely spontaneous. Juliet, I know exactly how you feel honey, you go for it girl!

Open To Spirit And You Will Be Transformed.

koala-lazing-aboutLiving in a bush sanctuary you get many opportunities to connect with the animal kingdom, horses, spiders, wallabies, birds with all kinds of wonderful plumage, parrots, ducks and owl. My Beloved spotted some movement over in the bush outside the garden as we sat on the back verandah above the water hole, it turned out to be a koala! It was quite big and moving much faster than one usually sees them going, not that one sees them very often in the wild, those that are managing to survive in the changing environment spend about 20 hours a day sleeping up in a tree. No wonder we don’t see them much!

I looked up the meaning of koala and wasn’t quite sure how it might apply to my Beloved and I, seemed to me that we were pretty relaxed already and very focused on the things that truly matter to us. It took a few days and a medicine journey, and a day of celebration with my Beloved of our six month anniversary to understand the message that was coming through. It is a message of doing without doing, being in the world but not of it, of following the path of the heart and the body’s desire for bliss, the soul connection to everything that is.

And that happens when you find the still point within you, the dark womb of creation where a field of energy is rippling with potential. It is the ultimate paradox, both still and moving, filled with light and the dark, the polarity of the masculine and the feminine, Shiva and Shakti. There are many paths towards ecstasy but for me they all come through my body sense even if my physical self is not moving. So it is fitting that the first event my Beloved and I facilitate together should be an ecstatic dance night, the night before the shortest day of the year, leading us into the energies of the Winter Solstice.

Gabrielle Roth has this to say about moving the body:

“If you put the body in motion, you will change. You are meant to move: from flowing to staccato, through chaos into lyric and back into the stillness from which all movement comes………..The spirit in motion heals, expands, circles in and out of the body, moving us through the layers of consciousness from inertia to ecstasy. Open to the spirit, and you will be transformed.”
