Do I Have To?: Even When It Feels Good.

ortho-bionomyThe process of self-care goes on as I do my best to respond to the painful messages my body has been sending me lately as I enter into this new phase of stepping into my power. I’ve managed to do a bit of yoga although no real routine as yet, note to self: tomorrow morning I will do a bit of a stretch even if it’s only for 5 or 10 minutes. That’s how it can work sometimes when you are trying to get back into good habits, do what you can and there is a cumulative effect regardless of how much time you’ve spent. And know when it’s time to ask for help, I had an awesome bodywork session a few weeks ago and last week I had a session of Ortho Bionomy. This is a technique that uses gentle movement of the body and compression of the joints to encourage the body to correct itself. My body is feeling better but the neck pain is slow to move and I decided a follow up session would be wise. If you’d like to know more about this modality check out this website: http://www.ortho-bionomy.org.au/what-is-ortho-bionomy/

As I sit here tuning into my body I am getting the feeling that it would like me to dance more often, something that hasn’t been happening in my life so often lately. I’m pretty sure that there was a post not so long ago where I made an intention to dance on a regular basis. Then there was moving house and planning a wedding and somehow good intentions got lost on the way. At the same time that I feel the desire of my body to move creatively I can also sense a part of me that is the opposite and really can’t be bothered with dancing and such things! It is interesting to watch these interactions, we all have so many different aspects within it’s a wonder anyone bothers with television. I know from my own experience that trying to motivate the reluctant aspect of self can be like trying to swim against the river’s current.

dance

So the way that I navigate these sometimes confusing currents is to do whatever I can that is fairly easy, kind of like picking the low hanging fruit on the tree. At the moment that means doing some yoga in the mornings and holding the intention to dance. It might be a 5 minute boogie to music at home, or a quick jig to music playing in a café or bar, I’m fortunate in that I have no shame when it comes to dancing in public. So really I have no excuse and in fact I am going to make a statement here, in the next week I will get up and dance at least twice for at least 5 minutes. And do some yoga on at least 4 days, won’t be so hard  this week as I’m planning to go to class this Friday and I have a whole day of silent retreat on Sunday with yoga and mindfulness mediation.

And hopefully somewhere in all of this the various aspects of my inner world will become more aligned with a harmonious and happy life. The healing goes on and I become more and more able to step into my own power and complete my spiritual task here on Planet Earth. Aho!

Emerging, Moving and Meditating.

Woman pruning tree.I wonder if being pruned feels to the plant as challenges and obstacles on my path do to me? It can seem quite brutal at times and yet we often look back on such incidences as important lessons that have been pivotal in the process of unfolding into full potential. I am still very much in the thick of my process but even now I can see how the recent and ongoing challenges are shaping me into a space of courage and positivity. Rather than fuss over who ought to be doing what I have taken up the gauntlet and am doing everything I can to reach my goals of happy, fulfilled, independent and meaningful living with my Beloved. My online readings have been launched and there is already positive feedback from that offering, more to come I am sure! The other initiative is a new meditation class that will be launched at the Maleny Yoga Shed tomorrow.

Body Awareness Meditation classes

We are going to save the full format of “Buddha Meets Your Body” for workshops and to have the weekly class as a meditation that focuses on bringing awareness into the whole organic being of mind, heart and body. So it’s minus the talking for the most part and aims to give participants an experience which they can take away and reflect on for themselves. It will be simple even when there is movement involved, for the first class people will be lying down for most of it and only moving the body in very subtle ways. When you bring awareness to any part of the body change follows as quickly as a thought can move and shift and change, possibly even quicker than thought in fact. Our bodies have their own wisdom and you never truly know anything until it is known throughout your being. And everything moves with greater ease when you are coming from a place of relaxation, a quality that tends to be undervalued much of the time.

Awareness energy meditation

So in the class we focus on relaxing and grounding before embarking on journeys of deep exploration, bringing awareness to deeper and deeper levels of consciousness. I know where we will begin but who knows where it will end up and that is the most exciting part of any expedition into the unknown. My Beloved and I will be learning as we go and excited to hear what others experience in the safe and supportive space that we will be creating for participants. For those who love to dance we will also be offering an hour of dance in the afternoon, “Dance Yourself Open”, from 5-6pm. I have a vision of building community with those who are interested in expanding their inner awareness and taking the understandings gained in meditation class on to the dance floor. And ultimately out into the larger world!

To Move Is To Be Alive!

Organs-Of-The-Human-Body“Blood cells that don’t move cannot transport oxygen, lungs that don’t move can’t breathe, hearts that don’t move can’t pump blood, and spines that don’t move can’t create the motion required for proper joint nutrition, for the activities of daily living, or for the stimulation of the joint-brain pathways required for proper brain and body function.” In short, movement is what enables our bodies to operate in all their delicate, wondrous complexity.

James Chestnut, chiropractor.

Dance and movement keep popping up whenever I consider current issues in my life, particularly in relation to my shoulder injury and the urinary tract infection that won’t go away. Of course I am doing what is appropriate with the medical profession, just because there is a lot wrong with modern medicine doesn’t mean that it isn’t a wonderful method of dealing with some problems. But expecting someone else to do all the fixing isn’t a useful way of thinking, if I want to get better then I need to participate in the healing process with as much mindfulness as I can muster.

mind-fullI’ve been moving less because of my shoulder injury, still can’t do my regular yoga class and struggling to get myself to do any kind of practice at home. Sometimes I don’t even know what makes it flare up, with that kind of uncertainty I am a bit scared to do anything that might conceivably make it worse. And becoming less physically fit isn’t going to help my immune system with the infection it’s dealing with. My sugar addiction is going strong again too which doesn’t help with this overall picture, certainly doesn’t look like the optimum health that I am aiming for in this life.

Not the state I aspire to!

Not the state I aspire to!

It’s very easy in a place like this to feel like there isn’t anything I can do to change this, the mind may know it’s possible but the emotional body feels trapped. What needs to happen is an internal shift of consciousness that breaks the old patterns that are flaring up at the moment. Each time I have been in this space I have found various ways of breaking the loop and the message that keeps coming to me right now is to move my body. My Beloved and I are about to spend four weeks on five acres with dogs and cats and alpacas and not much else so a space is opening up for exploration and for play.

dance

Sometimes it will be movement to music but there will be times when I invite my body to move to its own rhythms. This can be done alone but it is even more powerful with another as witness, simply observing, not participating except to give feedback afterwards. This is one activity that can be guaranteed not to hurt my shoulder, I have learned how to move so that it can participate without trauma. And my body always feels better when it is in regular motion, even just a short walk is enough to perk everything up. So while I will continue to call upon doctors to support me in my healing I will also be taking responsibility for my own wellbeing.

body in space

And once the shift in consciousness has occurred then all the other stuff becomes so much easier! When my head is in the right place healthy choices seem simple and obvious. I need to be kind to myself and take one step at a time, after all I have done this before. And each time I do it I find myself in a better position than the last time it happened, slowly but surely I am getting healthier and healthier.

Once Upon The Sea Of Blissful Awareness.

Ayahuasca image 4I only just remembered that I am supposed to write a post for tonight! I am in a space of no-time with my Beloved and I completely forgot what day it was, that is true relaxation. So I am going to honour that lovely place that has no deadlines by staying there and making this the shortest post I have ever published.

So I offer you a little exercise if you fancy it, this piece of music gives a sense of where my consciousness is floating at this moment, in the sea of love, of life. Turn it up and listen in the most relaxed space that you are able to achieve at this time, let the music take you deeper in to your body and if it feels good maybe even move your body. Imagine that every part of your body is listening to the music, not just your ears but every part of your physical being!

And surrender to the ocean of bliss that is the life we were born to live!

Connecting And Letting Go, In Sacred Space.

let goLetting go is a process of refinement I find, the more sensitive you can be as you tune into what your body, mind and spirit are up to, the more opportunity you have to let go of something else. You may have a sense of what it is or know precisely the meaning of what you are perceiving, or you may have no idea, just a knowing that something is leaving you. It is transformed and so are you as another piece of excess baggage falls away. Often there will be big themes that keep cropping up over and over again, don’t worry, if it’s coming up for you then it is available for release.

having issues

Any big issues that you have will be layered all through your experiences in life, the particular entry into the earth plane that you have taken in this incarnation, family, country, etc……..so don’t be discouraged if the same things keep on coming up. If you persist and persist and never give up on the possibility of healing everything in this lifetime, then it is possible to create fundamental change. At least that’s what it took for me in this lifetime, the strong desire to evolve my inner world, invoke my spiritual task and do what I have come here to do.

I am a communicator with words and sometimes with my body, toning is another medium that can create a sacred space where it is possible to use the sound to come into coherence, when the brain and the heart beat as one! It used to be my favourite way but I must confess that relationship as a spiritual practice is head and shoulders above the rest for me these days. But I will be doing some groups with my Beloved and that feels like the next stage of creating this kind of energy, if people connect with our offerings they may experience great transformation over time. At worst they will have a fun session and end up feeling a bit like little kids, learning should always be fun I reckon, there will definitely have to be some kind of movement/dance element.

Once again I feel excited at the thought of exploring ways of helping other seekers tune in and let go, looking forward to the Equinox very much! http://www.thejoining.com.au/

Altered States Of Experience.

formula oneNavigating different realities, my Beloved is studying transpersonal counselling and he has been talking about mapping the various states of consciousness that we move through in the course of a day. I’ve always been fascinated by altered states, it was that aspect of Formula One that appealed to me when I followed the sport rather intensely for about seven years. Seem strange? Not really when you think about it, there is no way someone could take a corner at the impossibly high speeds that they do in an everyday state of consciousness.

There are as many ways of attaining various states as there are people, some of the best known would be meditation, yoga, vision quest, dance and drumming……the list goes on and on. And there have been people using the medicine of the plant kingdom to facilitate journeys for as long as we are aware of, a blink in the cosmic eye but for human perception long enough! Ayahuasca is a better known plant medicine that has been part of the traditions of people in the Amazon, it is a spiritual practice that they shared with the world and it is reported to help immensely with spiritual development.

transparent-bodies-moving1Moving my body in the dance has been an important way of shifting realities for me, you allow your whole body to become the music so that it is playing through you. This takes you into the perspective of your larger self, the one who is conscious of the interconnectedness of all things, that can see the interplay of energies as life goes on. Toning also has been a wonderful way of going into the space of unified consciousness, sound is incredibly powerful and has often been a part of various therapies I have experienced.

So find a method that appeals to you, with so much choice you are sure to find something that helps you to open to the divine within your self, and therefore everything that you are connected to, which is everything! If that statement is  a bit of a mystery to you then it’s probably time to dive on in, your larger self may have drawn you to read these words for a reason.

Do you know why? Would it be intriguing to find out? Time for an adventure in the inner realms!

There can be no better start to such a journey as the experience of listening to Terence McKenna, plus some amazing images, enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rufFWxvZ0U

Practice Loving And Find Peace.

I am thinking a lot about the fact that I’m not doing much yoga at the moment, I know it will come back into my routine but I can feel the difference in my body. Although my physical self is mostly feeling pretty good owing to my loving workouts in the sensual world of tantra and body awareness, thank you to the Beloved, all of it. But I will be glad when I shift back into more regular practice because for me it is something that is grounding and irons out any kinks that I may have put in over a day.

It is so important to move your body, in fact your lymph system depends on it, that plays a vital role in the flow of blood in the circulatory system so being physically active is really important. The lymphatic system is also a key factor in maintaining our health, it is integral to the body’s ability to detox and to maintain a strong immune system. We do tend to do a lot of things sitting for sometimes long periods, I will tend to stretch my neck if I am working for long enough but I am sure I could introduce more self-awareness into my sedentary times.  Here is a link to an article about the lymphatic system: http://www.naturaltherapypages.com.au/article/lymphatic_system

It always comes back to awareness really, from that place flows all potential and possibility, see what is there and create whatever you want out in the quantum soup. So much of my journey is about letting go of the limitations that I have accepted and put upon myself, as we all have each in our own unique way. So I don’t give myself a hard time for not doing a lot of yoga, it’s not like I’m miserable or having a hard time at the moment. Life is good and I will do my best to bring my awareness to any health issues with curiosity and positivity, mostly I am concerned with prevention rather than a cure.

Quantum_Healing

There are almost certainly other methods that can create that difference in the body, it is about feeling toned and strong, I keep threatening to go to a dance class called Nia, don’t know yet if I will like it but dancing for my cardio workout sounds like an awesome idea! But I know I will come back to my yoga too, my body just adores being in that space, it has always felt like something I was being reminded of rather than taught. I suspect a number of lives back there in the deeps of time and space where spirituality and yoga were my life, at the very least it is an energy that I resonate with.

Pranayama.

Pranayama.

So if you go through times when you are not doing things that you love and are good for you, first step is to be kind to yourself. There is always a reason and change is important in life, when you come back to your practice you may find it has changed in a positive fashion. The same way that separation in  relationship can sometimes be a way of integrating change and ultimately making the relationship stronger.

I invite you to try out a loving practice with yourself, just for one day really notice when your mind makes a judgement about someone, it may be a stranger on the street. The practice is to send that person love instead, no reason why you can’t do it with bigger more impersonal issues too, sending your enemies love is actually a great strategy. But more on that in another post, time to let you go until the next time we meet!
