There is a lot of talk these days about getting enough of the good oils, in particular omega 3’s, a common source of this fat is of course fish. The only problem with this is that the disregard for sustainability that can be seen in corporations and governments around the world, extends into our oceans as well. If getting enough fish in our diet means that the ocean will be completely fished out by 2048, then a responsible person might just want to find other sources of omega 3’s.
Chia seeds: a rich source of omega 3’s.
Once again we have an example of vested interests who only care about making money, destroying our resources without any thought for the future. Since 1950 we have lost 90% of large fish from the sea, boats with HUGE nets trawl the oceans taking everything in their path, throwing away the bits that are of no use to them. It’s a far cry from the habits of indigenous people who generally take only what they need, with respect, leaving enough behind that the resources will continue to be there for future generations.
Western culture claims to operate on rational principles, does what I have described here make any sense to you? It certainly doesn’t to me, how can politicians keep taking money and favours from the lobby groups and still look their children in the eyes, knowing that their actions are changing the world forever, and not for the best of all humankind.
The separation of the heart and the head is the source of much of this insanity in my opinion, without the heart’s wisdom the head cannot really truly understand the consequences of its decisions. That’s what needs to happen in the inner realms of the future human, a coming together of the mind and the heart, an evolution into coherence. And of course there is also direct action, the Black Fish is a protest vessel that will be focusing on the Mediterranean Sea over the next year, where fishing regulations are routinely ignored, they will endeavour to expose and challenge these practices. To find out more check out this animated film below:
Year 2048: NONE of the fish left in the sea that we’re currently eating?
That is the dire warning in this captivating animated short about the overfishing of our seas.
A beautifully produced cartoon on a subject that couldn’t be more serious:

Winter descends with a grip grown icy, and begins to weep and weep, mirroring my own deep sadness, gentle, but pervading my entire being, soft and spiraling down. Every new beginning contains the end of all manner of things, as I move through this transition with as much grace as I can muster, almost gliding along at times.
The death of a small animal that was mine to care for, the death of a dream that was never actually mine, the shifts and changes in relationship and the opening of new doorways. What seemed exciting the day before is hollowed out by nature’s sobbing, the deep relaxation found in the meditation at the end of my morning practice is still there inside me, a huge white space that holds the promise of freedom, yet feels cold.
This is not misery nor despair, it is not loss nor is it abandonment. The truth is that this is not completely mine, I take responsiblity for the emptiness for that is where I source my true power, ’tis where my fullness lies. But the sadness comes from another, a deep connection that does not want to be severed, it fears to embrace the glory of the fullness that was open to its seeking tendrils, yet neither can it let go. Attraction and repulsion playing an inner tug of war beneath the level of conscious awareness, am I perhaps going into madness, and yet my intuition is quite sure of what it knows.
From Oracle of the Dragonfae by Lucy Cavendish.
Before I sat down to write I took a card from Lucy Cavendish’s Oracle of the Dragonfae, Gwynne and Elluish, which told me that my connection to nature is getting stronger and that my intuition is growing with it, and that I will be receiving messages from my own inner knowing that I can trust. So I tend to believe what is coming to me in the way of that knowledge and I break that deep connection with much love and great respect, there will always be love, after all, where could it go?
And as I do this the sadness begins to lift, leaving only the emptiness…………..pregnant with the dawn of a new day that is almost ready to peep over the horizon………..my inner smile grows……as Father Sky continues to weep and weep.

Even though I am obsessed with self-care, there are still times when I seem to load up my plate with such a lot of activities, I wonder if I really do know what I’m doing. First check point is, do all the things I want to do ‘feel’ right for me, if the answer is yes then I need to work out how to do it all while still taking care of myself. It can be quite a challenge, and while being organised is helpful, it’s my attitude that actually makes the biggest difference.
I’m sure you’ve heard about having an attitude of gratitude, well it does actually work, only I take it even further than that. The other day I did a day of cleaning at a beautiful healing centre, a huge building and an enormous amount of effort involved. I don’t really like to clean much but if you have to do it, you may as well feel good about it, and so I look upon it as an act of devotion or service. That notion I’ve been talking about a lot lately of bringing the sacred into everything we do. When you bring love into your action it not only enhances whatever you are doing, it brings that energy into the house that you are cleaning, or the food that you are preparing. And you can actually taste the love in food, really you can, it does taste better!
If everyone on the planet suddenly came down with a magical virus that brought out the qualities of love, respect, devotion and kindness, the world would be transformed overnight. Not a bad idea for a novel now I come to think of it, the sort of thing that Ben Elton might write. Let’s try seeing the world as the comedy that it really is, when I went to my yoga class in the middle of my busy week I dropped all the ‘doing’, and found myself smiling a lot and trying not to laugh. Not at anything in particular, just because I was in one of my favourite sacred spaces, and all my stressing was suddenly in perspective.
Let’s try to get some perspective happening here in this crazy world we’ve created, see the humour and the sacred in all things.
Shanti, shanti, shanti………peace, peace, peace………………..
