The Present Is A Gift So Be Here Now.

From "Be Here Now" by Ram Dass.

From “Be Here Now” by Ram Dass.

We live in tumultuous times and my chosen path is to navigate through shifting sands, while remaining fairly harmonious and doing the entire thing with a certain amount of ease and grace. Or  at least that’s the plan, I try not to get too far ahead with the details of what I’m creating, by the time I get there details will have quite likely changed, sometimes drastically so. It is the closest I can be to living in the moment, in that space a lot of the time but stuff does still get triggered, which will often bring up the past, and also fears around the future.

Am I house sitting, renting or living with my mother, the how, why and when of all this possibility continues to be perfectly fluid, I hold a piece of potential in my hand and look to the future. I can see how it might shape that landscape but in the next moment it might change completely. So I do my best to give myself to the moment that I am in, and what I find is that the present moment is usually pretty good, nothing to stress about.

I guess I’m challenging the part of me that worries about survival, roof over the head and food on the table kind of thing, we do live in uncertain times and faith is essential in order to be a calm space amidst the chaos that is modern life. The thing is I have never been in the position of not having somewhere to live, I’ve been living in some very nice places with my house sitting. And the food I eat is largely organic, and with very little in the way of processed products, as much a whole food diet as I can manage while listening to the body’s changing needs.

I am feeling a lot more trusting though, everybody is entitled to being a bit shaky from time to time, it’s called being a part of the human race! Most of the time I am very happy on my path, often intensely so, seems that the struggle has finally been let go of, as the  future opens up pregnant with possibilities.

So be it, so be it, so be it……………

Fragments Of Self.

The shaman begins to drum and dance calling the power of the universe to her as she puts her egoic self aside and becomes an empty vessel that fills with the help of the spirits.
The client lies quietly in the center breathing deeply to be in a receptive state to receive back his lost soul; his lost vitality.
The shaman sings her journey out loud as she tracks down where the soul has fled. And on finding it returns and blows it deeply into the heart of the client filling the entire body with the light of life.
There is a great joy for all as one heals all are healed. The community is now whole again and can be in peace and harmony.

One of the ways that we deal with trauma in our lives is to leave our bodies, so as not to feel the full impact of the crisis, it’s a survival mechanism that actually works quite well if there’s an understanding of what’s going on. Parts of our soul may leave altogether in that moment, but this is a concept that is not understood or accepted in our current western culture. So instead of doing the healing straight away we end up losing more and more of who we are, the world gradually becomes a duller place and most of the time we don’t even realise that it’s happening.

After years of healing trauma after trauma I began to experience a much sharper appreciation of the world around me, colours, sights, sounds and smells are more vivid than they used to be. It’s like I am returning to the perception of being a child, but bringing to that the knowledge and understanding that I have developed as I’ve moved along my healing path. Whenever one individual becomes more whole, the entire community benefits and this is something that is well understood in indigenous cultures that view the world from a shamanic perspective.

We are all interconnected on so many levels, without a recognition of this basic fact of existence, the current civilisation is likely to become a part of this latest process of extinction that is occurring on the planet at this time. We do need to change and I tend to be the eternal optimist on this subject, if I can create huge fundamental change in myself and my life, then so can everyone else!

Bring it on!

God And Guiness!

Mmmmmmm……. what to write next? Sex and tantra, emotional release, or perhaps yet another rhapsody on my wonderful country town! Actually speaking of my home, it seems we may be facing an invasion from some possibly very fundamental God Botherers. They started with an office, and it has now become a church, and it’s right next door to the local Irish Bar where you can go and listen to the jam session on sunday afternoons. Strange kind of juxtaposition if you ask me, and that’s the response of most people I know, and yet it has been given the go ahead by council.

I’ve heard stories of how fundamentalists have infiltrated other country towns by buying up the real estate, they often have influence on the councils and it seems fairly certain that they do have an agenda. I have no problem with people having different beliefs to me, but I do object to those who keep trying to push those ideas on to everybody else. They say they want to save souls, but the idea that I need to be saved is simply a ‘belief’, one which I don’t happen to agree with. If there is any saving to be done I will do it myself thank you very much!

So is there anything to be done about this situation? The problem is that anything that might be done is time-consuming, and there are so many other issues that require urgent attention. Coal seam gas springs to mind immediately, the poisoning of our water basin is fundamental to our survival on the planet, without water the God Botherers won’t be around to do any converting.

I am left with the response which is what I always do come back to, it’s how I am doing my spiritual task on the planet and it has the power to affect absolutely everything it is directed at. By holding my sound circles and supporting others with readings, bodywork and sound healing, I’m contributing to the shift in consciousness that is inevitable on this planet. If that doesn’t occur then all the direct action in the world will not make a tad of difference, not that it isn’t important. It just isn’t part of the brief I agreed to when I was setting up my contract before I incarnated this time.

And of course there is the contribution I make each time I make my own shifts, we really are so much more important each and every one of us, all of our thoughts and actions matter so very much! As Marianne Williamson wrote and Nelson Mandela made famous:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

This inspiring quote by Marianne Williamson is from her book, A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles, Harper Collins, 1992. From Chapter 7, Section 3 (Pg. 190-191).
